Start preparing for Year 12 early with a summer course!

Ask anyone who has been through it and they would tell you that the jump between Year 11 and Year 12 is massive. Be it from IGCSE, GCSE, or IBMYP, to GCE AL, iAL or IBDP, the gap is grossly underestimated by a lot of students, who often come to regret it when the new syllabus inevitably starts.

Differences

Aside from the drastic increase in the amount of content, the content itself is also much more detailed, complex, and difficult for each and every subject. Because of the sheer amount of topics that have to be covered, the schedule tends to be rather tight, thus teachers tend to go quite a bit faster.

Besides, depending on the subject, the style of the exam questions is likely to be very different as well. In general, questions will be longer and require more in-depth rather than just surface level knowledge. Especially for humanities and social science subjects, like Economics and Geography, which will require you to write full length essays instead of just short responses.

Preparations

Therefore, it is of utmost importance that you are fully prepared going into Year 12 or else there is a high chance that you would fall behind at the beginning of the school year.

Become familiar with the course content

If you’re starting a new subject that you haven’t studied before, you should definitely do some research and find out more about what kinds of topics you’ll be learning and read up on them. Even if you have taken that subject before, you should ensure that you are comfortable with the content you have learnt already as most teachers tend to gloss over assumed knowledge in the upper years due to the tight schedule.

Get help and support

If you feel nervous about a particular subject, getting guidance from your current school teachers or tutors will definitely help you build confidence and mentally prepare you for Year 12.

Here in For You Education, we offer an intensive summer course for selected subjects that tend to be more popular in order to help our students prepare.
